Psyllium is the husk and seed of Plantago ovata consists of up to 70% water soluble and 30% water insoluble dietary fiber and has long been used as a bulking laxative with a good safety record.

It is more appropriately termed a true dietary fiber and not stimulating laxative. It acts as a bowel regulator to normalize the peristalsis of the intestine; increases the frequency when it is too slow (constipation) and reduces the frequency when it is too fast (diarrhea), thus it can help to reduce the symptoms of both the constipation and mild diarrhea.

Psyllium is one of the best dietary fibers used as a gentle intestinal cleanser. Psyllium consists of husks and seeds which act as a sponge in the intestinal tract and swell as they absorb water, toxins and waste material. This forms a soft, bulky stool that passes through the colon quickly and evacuates more smoothly and easily.

Psyllium may also have an effect on appetite because fiber-rich foods take longer to digest and thus result in an increased feeling of fullness and satiety; therefore, it may aids in weight loss by reducing food intake at meals.

Studies have shown psyllium can lower total as well as LDL (bad cholesterol) cholesterol levels following 8 weeks of regular use, which may help reduce risk of heart disease.


Adult: 1 – 2 sachets per day or as prescribed by your doctor.

Children 6 – 12 years old: 1/2 sachet per day.
